Next Steps
Richmond Community College has been selected by the North Carolina Community College System to be part of a pilot program leading a state effort to provide inclusive post-secondary education leading to employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RichmondCC now offers Next Steps, an individualized, job-focused instruction and workforce preparation activities for adults with intellectual disabilities.
To Be Eligible
- 18 years or older and functioning below the 12th grade level
- Ability to obtain a valid score on an NRS-approved assessment
- Must meet and agree to enrollment criteria, attendance and conduct policies
3 Steps to Completion
Step 1: Bronze Level - Tuition free
- Contextualized reading and math instruction with focus on career exploration and workforce readiness.
- Two-year program, minimum one semester before entering Silver.
Step 2: Silver Level - Tuition free
- Employability Skills (Working Smart)
- Digital Literacy
- Advising
- Can run concurrent with continued CCR class
Step 3: Gold Level
- Workforce continuing education or curriculum classes
- Vocational rehabilitation referral
- On-the-job training, job coaching
- Potential apprenticeship opportunities
