Learn the skills necessary to draw blood specimens in healthcare settings and blood donation centers. Phlebotomists may assist in preparing specimens in the laboratory. They are employed by hospitals, doctor offices and labs. Course topics include venipuncture, specimen handling, record-keeping and the healthcare profession. Total course hours: 120
RichmondCC offers this class every spring semester. Classes are held on the Hamlet Campus and are evening classes. Clinical hours will be scheduled during daytime hours as most blood draws are done during the day.
Class Dates: Jan. 22 - June 4
- Jan. 22 - March 5: Class meets virtually Wednesdays from 5:30 to 9:40 p.m.
- March 3 - April 30: Face-to-face class meetings Mondays and Wednesdays (except March 5) from 5:30 to 9:40 p.m. in the Grimsley Building, rm. 204, Hamlet Campus.
- May 5: Clinicals begin.
- May 7 - June 4: Face-to-face class meetings Wednesdays from 5:30 to 9:40 p.m. in the Grimsley Building, rm. 204, Hamlet Campus, for certification preparation.
Requirements for Registration
- High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED or HiSET)
- Accuplacer Next Generation Reading score of 250 or higher OR Must have taken ENG 111 and earned a C or better.
- Valid U.S. government issued Social Security Card
- Valid driver’s license or state issued picture ID
- Current TB skin test, flu shot and immunization records
- Physical (School form)
You are required to present all documents and/or transcripts at registration.
