That means she is guaranteed a spot at UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall of 2027 upon her graduation from RichmondCC in May 2027.

“I think the initial reaction to my acceptance was just relief that I was going to be able to attend a four-year university like I had been wanting to, because without a program similar to C-STEP I wouldn't have been able to,” Abigail said. “I look forward to the opportunities and connections I can make when attending UNC, along with dorm life and living away from home for the first time.”

The Carolina Student Excellence Program (C-STEP) guarantees transfer admission and provides students with support from a network of peer and faculty mentors who help them succeed both at RichmondCC and after they transition to Carolina.

“I applied for C-STEP because I was interested in the scholarships RichmondCC offered for students similar to me with financial difficulties, and I've always liked UNC as a basketball team,” Abigail said.

Abigail, who was home schooled, will graduate from RichmondCC with an Associate in Arts degree. At UNC-Chapel Hill, she plans to major in international business and minor in something along the lines of finance, foreign languages or political sciences. Because she is passionate about traveling, she hopes to build a career in global sourcing and procurement management, international banking or international project management.
