RichmondCC Social Services Grads Have Direct Path to UNCP
Nov. 4, 2025 - Richmond Community College students who have completed the Social & Human Services Technology associate degree can now transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Social Work program at the University of North Carolina-Pembroke.
RichmondCC students can transfer up to 90 credits, leaving approximately 30 credits to complete at UNC Pembroke.
“This agreement represents an exciting opportunity for our Social & Human Services Technology students — particularly those who have completed the Social Services or Addiction & Recovery concentrations — to seamlessly transition into the BSW program at UNC Pembroke,” said Amanda McKenzie, Human Services Program Coordinator for RichmondCC. “It has been a privilege to collaborate with Dr. Summer Woodside on this meaningful partnership, which is focused on expanding opportunities for our students and providing them with a clear transfer pathway to an excellent institution that participates in the NC Promise tuition plan.”
As an undergraduate student at UNC Pembroke, students will benefit from the North Carolina Tuition Promise Plan (NC Promise), paying only $500 per semester for in-state tuition and $2,500 for out-of-state tuition.
NC Promise gives RichmondCC students an even greater opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree without going into debt paying for it.
About Social & Human Services
RichmondCC’s Social & Human Services program prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies which provide social, community, and educational services. Along with core courses, which are offered 100 percent online, students can choose from five concentration areas, each with specific coursework and career opportunities. Outside of class work, students will gain skills through experiential, hands-on learning as part of this curriculum.
Students can choose from one of these five concentrations:
- Addiction & Recovery – Gain skills and knowledge to assist in drug and alcohol counseling, prevention-oriented educational activities, rehabilitation with recovering clients, managing community-based programs and counseling in residential facilities.
- Child Advocacy Studies - Gain essential skills and knowledge to recognize, prevent and respond to child abuse and neglect.
- Mental Health – Gain the knowledge and skills to understand mental health challenges and interventions.
- Social Services – Gain skills and knowledge for direct service delivery work in social service agencies.
- Generalist – For students who have not identified a specific area of interest, but rather prefer to gain a broader understanding of Social and Human Services.
Students can begin their studies with a certificate in one of these concentrations, except for Generalist. All certificates are stackable with degrees, and all certificates are offered 100 percent online.
RichmondCC is now accepting new students for the 2026 Spring and Summer Semesters. Applications can be completed for free online. Spring semester begins Jan. 9. Call (910) 410-1700 or text (910) 518-9685 for more information.
