Medical Assisting

A medical assisting student draws blood from a fake armA medical assistant is a healthcare professional who provides administrative and clinical support to physicians and other healthcare staff in various healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals and doctor's offices. 

Richmond Community College offers a Medical Assisting program comprised of two phases that are completed over the course of two semesters. During the second phase, students receive five weeks of work experience in clinical settings. In order to start phase two, students must successfully complete required courses.

Prerequisites for Enrollment

  • Completed registration form
  • High school diploma or equivalent transcript (with expected graduation date or completion date)
  • Accuplacer Next Generation Reading and Math test of 250 or higher OR transcript showing successful completion of college level English and Math class
  • All official transcripts, if applicable
