A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an industrial computer that continuously monitors the state of input devices and, based on a custom program, controls the state of output devices. Essentially, it's a sophisticated automation system for machines, processes, and production lines. In this Introduction to PLC class, students will learn the basic components of a PLC, how they function and troubleshooting. The course will not go into PLC programing, but students will discuss how to read a ladder logic diagram. Upon successful completion of this class, students will receive college credits in RichmondCC's Mechatronics Engineering Technology associate degree program.
