RichmondCC to offer Yoga Classes at the New Robinette Building Downtown

February 24, 2021 - Richmond Community College will offer yoga classes beginning March 3 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the new Robinette Building in downtown Rockingham.

Yoga is the practice of being present in the body in union with the breath. This class introduces students to the physical practices of yoga. The class will also focus on mindful breathing practices and awareness meditation. Students will get a better understanding of ho Yoga Classw to safely and effectively practice yoga. You will also break down the anatomy and alignment of postures.

This class will allow individuals to focus more on separating their minds from their bodies and learn more about the practice through postures and breath work. Participants will learn how to create more balance in yoga poses, which can create more balance off the mat.

Whether you are young or old, fit or not fit, yoga can calm the mind and strengthen the body. Yoga is for everyone. The benefits of yoga are endless. The practice can promote better physical health, mental control and calmness. It is also known for being widely used in many health fields to assist in the treatment of substance abuse, anxiety, depression, heart disease and many cancer treatment regiments.

Class topics will include mindful breathing techniques, setting intentions, warm-ups, linked postures, abdominal work, cool down and relaxation practices.

“I first found yoga as a form of exercise. Shortly after, I started to see the mental benefits. It helped me see the world from a new perspective and overcome the victim mindset,” said Ashleigh Arey, who will be the instructor for RichmondCC’s yoga class.

“Seeing how much it helped me in my life, I knew it was something I wanted to share with the world. I am thrilled to be able to share it with the citizens of our community,” said Arey.
