RichmondCC Graduate Majoring in Biology at Wingate

Mikayla English stands next to her roommate.Mikayla English of Ellerbe is majoring in Biology at Wingate University with a track in Medical Laboratory Science. She transferred to Wingate after earning an Associate in Science from Richmond Community College. She received the Gateway to Wingate Scholarship, which made the transfer process easy and affordable.

“This scholarship has helped me so much with the cost of Wingate because it has made my monthly payments much more manageable instead of being in debt for years to come,” Mikayla said. “I learned about the Gateway scholarship while I was a student at RichmondCC. Between Mrs. McDonald and Mrs. Christy Mabe, they never let any scholarship go unheard of. RichmondCC also has people from schools such as Wingate come set up on campus so students can drop by and ask any questions they may have.”

Mikayla was able to transfer to Wingate with 60 college credits, which made her a second semester sophomore.

“Personally, my transfer process was very smooth, and there was no mixed communication with my advisor when planning my schedule for the next two years,” she said.

Mikayla said starting her college education at RichmondCC put her ahead of the game and prepared her for her studies at Wingate.

“It allowed me to immediately start taking classes at Wingate that actually pertain to my major and not just a lot of prerequisite classes,” she said.

Mikayla is on track to graduate from Wingate in December 2027. Her career plan is to work as a medical laboratory scientist.
