RichmondCC Welding Students Compete in 'Weld Off'

Richmond Community College had two welding students compete in the American Welding Society’s annual regional welding competition Friday, April 22, at Surry Community College in Dobson. Pictured are Richmond Community College welding students Chance Askew, left, and James McDonald, who competed in the American Welding Society’s annual regional welding competition.Chance Askew placed 8th overall and James McDonald placed in the top 20. Students from nine community colleges — Central Piedmont, Craven, Guilford, Johnston, Lenoir, Nash, Richmond, Rowan-Cabarrus and Wake — participated in the competition.

Each competitor had to complete welds in three different processes — stick, MIG and TIG.

Winners received helmets, gloves and other personal safety equipment donated by local businesses.
