Hudson Says Scholarship Money Will Help Others Reach Their Goals
Aug. 29, 2025 - Last October, the Eugene T. Hudson Jr. & Ronald M. Hudson Family Endowment was established by the Hudson family. The endowment fund bears Tom’s name and his brother’s name, Ron, who passed away in 2021, but it honors a family’s legacy of hard-working, community orientated people.
“Richmond Community College is a place that I thought the monies would benefit the most people through scholarships. In turn, those people would be bettering themselves and their families through improved skills and trades,” Tom said.
For 61 years, the Hudson family operated a successful paving and construction business, Hudson Paving Inc.
“Hudson Paving was our life,” Tom said.
In 1961, Tom and Ron’s father, Eugene T. Hudson Sr., and Eugene Brent McLaurin formed the construction company Hudson-McLaurin Inc. Two years later in 1963, Hudson Sr. started Hudson Paving Inc. He served as president of the company, and his wife, Mary G., was both the secretary and treasurer.
“At an early age, the work ethic demonstrated by our parents was instilled in us, and it stayed with us through life. Positive thinking and setting goals everyday were a part of our life story,” Tom said.
Tom and brother Ron worked together for 45 years at Hudson Paving. While Ron and Tom had different characteristics, their core values were always the same.
“I’m sure Ron would have approved of the creation of the Hudson endowment with RichmondCC to encourage and give working people a chance to reach their goals,” Tom said.
