Going to College Easy As 1, 2, 3, 4

Aug 1

Aug. 1, 2022 - Richmond Community College has been working to simplify its admissions process, especially when it comes to applying for financial aid and scholarships.A financial aid staff member helps a student applying online

“We have been researching why people start the application process but never complete it and never enroll,” said Dr. Dale McInnis, president of RichmondCC. “We want to make sure we are making it easy for people to become a student and receive the financial resources that will make college affordable for them.”

RichmondCC does not have an application fee, so anyone can fill out an application for free. The application can be found online on the College’s website, www.richmondcc.edu, but help is available in person for anyone who wants to come to the Hamlet or Scotland County Campus and meet with a career and college transfer advisor.

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has also been simplified.

“If a student has previously completed a FAFSA, the new FAFSA will have the student’s information already populated. The student only has to complete portions of the new application,” said Director of Financial Aid Emily Jarrell. “Also, students can select the data retrieval tool through the IRS so they are not required to fill in tax information.”

The admission process is four easy steps:

  1. Complete the online residency application.
  2. Complete the online admissions application.
  3. Apply for financial aid and scholarships.
  4. Send in official high school or college transcripts.

“We have an open door admissions policy at RichmondCC,” said McInnis. “We don’t turn anyone away who wants to get a college education or career training. Our staff is committed to helping make the admissions process an easy, welcoming experience.”

Registration for the fall semester is currently underway. Classes begin Aug. 17, so now is the time to complete the admission process. The College is holding a College Funding Day on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a registration day Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Staff will be available to meet with people at both campuses on those days.
