RichmondCC offers three defensive driving courses that are approved by the North Carolina Safety and Health Council. These courses are designed to teach individuals to put safety first on the road and help eliminate the leading causes of preventable death or injury in N.C. through driver education.
Defensive Driving: Alive @ 25
This defensive driving class is aimed at young drivers ages 16 to 24, who are statistically at a greater risk of being involved in a car crash. The course bridges the gap between the rules of the road that teens learn in driver’s education courses and the behaviors and skills they need to be responsible behind the wheel. The course can serve as a complement to a standard driver's education program.
Course Topics
- Current state laws and negative effects regarding speeding and seat belt usage
- Current state laws and negative effects regarding impared driving, including the use of cell phone
- The dangers of peer pressure and distractions
- Risks involved with being an inexperienced driver
