Richmond Community College will be collecting items to help students, employees and their families who have been impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

“As we assess the tremendous damage our region has suffered from the results of Matthew, RichmondCC is pulling together to support our students, employees and neighbors who havRichmond Community College’s Student Government Association is helping coordinate the Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. Items will be first distributed to students and employees in need, and then additional donations will go to the Red Cross in Robeson County.e been impacted by the flooding and wind,” Dr. Dale McInnis, RichmondCC president said. “Our campus was fortunate to have had only minimal damage. However, many folks are still without power, and in Robeson County the flooding has taken a tremendous toll.”

The College is working with faculty, staff and its Student Government Association to identify students and employees who may be in need of assistance.

“Once we have met the immediate needs of our students, employees and their families, we will continue to coordinate donations we receive through the Red Cross in Robeson County,” McInnis said.

The College is accepting donations of gently used or new clothes, under garments, shoes, and especially coats as the weather begins to cool. Household cleaning supplies, diapers, wipes, and personal hygiene items are also in need.

Drop-off locations for these items include the Cole Auditorium, the main entrance of Lee Building on the Main Campus in Hamlet and the reception area of the Honeycutt Center in Laurinburg.

“Many of you are already contributing through your churches or civic groups, and that is appreciated. Our college will be concentrating our efforts to have the greatest impact possible on our students and employees,” McInnis said. “Now is the time we need to pull together as a college. Those of us that have been spared from this disaster have an obligation and an opportunity to help.”
