Industrial Systems Instructor Mark Treadaway Applauded for QEP Efforts

Dec 7

Industrial Systems Technology lead instructor Mark Treadaway is fall semester’s winner of the QEP faculty prize drawing. He was awarded $25 cash from the RCC Foundation in support of the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan Speaking to Convey, Writing to Display.

The Foundation also provided $10 student QEP incentive What’s Fore Lunch vouchers for five winning ACA students.

The QEP was implemented this fall into the Industrial Systems program, and Mark had his students write technical reports, prepare PowerPoint slide shows and give oral presentations on the subject of their technical reports.

“At first, it was not clear to the students why they were having to do these type of projects in a non-traditional English class setting, but I emphasized how appropriately presenting technical material in their chosen field gives them more marketable skills,” Mark said. “They’ve come to realize the importance of learning these skills in the classroom so they can be better prepared for communicating on the job.”

In order to improve our students’ oral and written communication skills, faculty must support the QEP by finding ways to incorporate it into their lessons in the classroom.

“Appropriate oral and written communication is the key to success in many professional jobs,” Mark said. “Strengthening our students skills in these areas is important because many will face challenges on the job that will require them to effectively use oral and written communication.”

Treadaway has 19 years of experience teaching in higher education, including eight years at Wilson Community College and 11 years at RichmondCC. We applaud Mark for his efforts to improve student learning outcomes by embracing the QEP and incorporating it into his classes.
