7 Cadets Complete Basic Law Enforcement Training at RichmondCC

Seven cadets completed the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Richmond Community College on Aug. 11 in order to prepare themselves for a career in law enforcement.

Family and friends, as well as law officers from multiple agencies, attended the graduation ceremony that recognizes these cadets for completing the five-month program, which includes training in firearms, driving, motor vehicle law, and arrest, search and seizure. The BLET course is also filled with practical exercises and an extensive ethics section that is woven throughout the training experience.

The 2016 BLET graduates include David L. Blackmon and Keeley S. Sutton from Richmond County and Maculay T. Duparl, Tonya M. Gay, Courtney T. Jarrell, Nila D. Kettlety and Jonathan B. Thrush from Scotland County.

Jarrell received the award for having the highest grade point average and was also named the overall top cadet for the 2016 class. She is employed by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department.

Duparl received an award for his top performance on the Police Officer Physical Ability Test.

Two cadets received employment upon graduation. Jonathan B. Thrush has been hired by Scotland County Sheriff’s Department, and Sutton has been offered employment with the Rockingham Police Department.

Gay is employed by the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department.
