Grey Martin is a RichmondCC Guarantee Recipient

Grey Martin of Laurinburg is a former dual enrollment student who qualified for the RichmondCC Guarantee in 2019 and paid zero money in tuition at RichmondCC. He earned an Associate in Criminal Justice Technology in just one year and transferred to the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. He now works for the Town of Hamlet’s Fire and Rescue.

How did receiving the RichmondCC Guarantee influence your decision to start your college education at Richmond Community College?

It greatly influenced my decision to start my college education at RichmondCC because it left the worry of having to pay for tuition out of it. It allowed me to easily transfer from high school into my college career.

Did you feel like you were well prepared when you got to UNCP?

I feel that I was well prepared to start at UNCP after leaving RichmondCC. RichmondCC helped me get used to the online format of my courses, and the transition was very smooth.

Do you feel like you had a well-rounded college experience?

Although most of my college career was online, I still feel like I had a well-rounded college experience because of the connections I made with other students through my courses.

Did you or your family save money by starting at RichmondCC and then transferring?

My family and I saved a substantial amount of money with the RichmondCC Guarantee, and it allowed me to get all of my general education and some core courses that would transfer to UNCP, which in turn saved us more money.

Why would you recommend someone attending RichmondCC first versus going straight to a four-year university after graduating high school?

I would recommend going to RichmondCC first then transferring to a university, to anyone! RichmondCC allowed me to obtain my associate degree one year after graduating high school, with free tuition. It also allowed me to obtain my bachelor’s degree in just one year because most of my RichmondCC courses transferred to UNCP. I was only at UNCP for a year and came out debt free.
