RichmondCC Welding Students Learn about Changes in Auto Body Industry

May 7, 2018 – Richmond Community College welding students were given the opportunity to learn about and experiment working with new technology that is being used in the auto body industry.

Representatives from Barnes Motor and Parts Co. and Carolina Collision Equipment recently came to campus to give a hands-on demonstration of Car-O-Liner’s latest aluminum repair welders, repair systems and rivet tools. This new technology is used in the auto body industry for repairing Ford's new aluminum F-150.

“In order to work in the auto body industry, you have to have knowledge of these products to successfully work with today’s aluminum vehicles,” said Mickey Tyson from Carolina Collision Equipment.

Tyson and Bucky Douthit, from NAPA Auto Parts, gave the presentation in RichmondCC’s welding lab and worked individually with students using the new technology.

“It was a great opportunity for us to have these veterans of the industry working with our students and showing them the skills and knowledge they’ll need when they enter the workforce,” welding instructor Chris Cesaro said. “It’s very important that we equip our students with real-world knowledge and real-world skills so they can meet the demands of today’s employers.”
