By making the HMT classes available completely online, it is now possible for individuals currently working in the healthcare industry to prepare themselves for advancement by taking classes online along with a few evening classes.

The HMT curriculum at RCC prepares students for employment in healthcare business and financial operations. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the application of management principles to the healthcare environment. The curriculum places emphasis on planning, organizing, directing and controlling tasks related to healthcare organizational objectives including the legal and ethical environment. Emphasis is placed on the development of effective communication, managerial and supervisory skills.

“We’ve listened to the needs of the healthcare community, and we are making it easier for more people who are currently employed in healthcare clerical and administrative positions to acquire a formal education and to advance their skills training by continuously growing our online course offerings,” RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis said.

Nationally, the healthcare industry continues to be among the most in-demand of all professions. As the median age of the population climbs and baby boomers remain active into their retirement years, healthcare services are expected to expand in response to those demographic shifts. According to federal statistics, healthcare management and administration are among the fastest-growing disciplines.

“Graduates of Richmond Community College’s HMT program have been very successful,” Dr. Devon Hall, the program’s lead instructor, said. “They can be found employed with local hospitals, home health agencies, physician offices, as well as local health departments.”

No prior healthcare experience is needed to earn a recognized college credential in healthcare management.

Individuals interested in earning either a certificate or degree in Healthcare Management at RCC should contact Hall at (910) 410-1912 or dghall@richmondcc.edu

“Space is limited, so we strongly encourage people to apply early,” Hall said.

RCC will have New Student Registration for fall semester on Thursday, June 25, from 2:30 to 5:45 p.m. on its main campus in Hamlet.
