RCC Offering Classes for New and Experienced Welders

Feb 5

Richmond Community College is offering two welding classes this spring that will prepare beginners to enter the workforce, as well as give welders with experience an opportunity to hone their skills.

Welding Techniques will be offered three days a week from Feb. 23 through May 13, training students on the basics of stick and mig welding and more advanced techniques such as brazing and torch cutting. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also being offered on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be a course on Maintenance Welding, which will meet Feb. 27 through April 10.

“The Friday class was created with local industries in mind,” said instructor Randy Cox. “It will provide a good opportunity for them to send employees to this class one day a week to brush up on their skills.”

Cox has taught many welding classes at RCC and has seen several of his students make successful transitions from the classroom into the workforce.

“Most of the local industries primarily do mig welding, but once a student completes this program, they’ll have the skills for a variety of welding jobs,” Cox said.

Cost of the three-day a week Welding Techniques class is $180. Cost of the Maintenance Welding class is $70. The classes are being offered through RCC’s Workforce and Economic Development division.
