Dance the Night Away and Support a ‘Working’ Cause at the Anniversary Gala

Richmond Community College has awarded 318 students with a Working Scholarship since its inception three years ago, making it the College’s largest awarding scholarship fund. To make sure working students continue to receive this aid, the Richmond Community College Foundation will host its Anniversary Gala from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Cole Auditorium.

A spectacular night of food, cocktails, live music and dancing, the Gala is a fundraiser for the Working Scholarship, which is awarded to working students whose income may disqualify them from receiving state and federal financial assistance.

“Many of our students are working their way through college and have family responsibilities as well, so this scholarship helps offset some of the financial burdens of college and allows these students to achieve their goal for a better life,” Dr. Dale McInnis, RichmondCC president, said. “Our goal is to continue to grow this scholarship program and assist the many hard working students who qualify.”

The College Foundation will also be honoring Citizen of the Year John Jackson at the Gala. Jackson is president of Richmond Memorial Hospital and Sandhills Regional Medical Center. He received the distinguished Citizen of the Year award for his community leadership and support.

“We are excited to honor Mr. Jackson and his service to our community and to our college,” said Dr. Hal Shuler, Associate Vice President of Development. “He has long supported our healthcare programs, specifically our Allied Health programs, and been a true partner for education.”

The Gala will feature live entertainment by the band Risse, as well as a red carpet photo experience for guests.
