Welding
Overview
We can prepare you for a welding career in just two semesters. Students can start in Welding I or Welding II. Upon successful completion of each course, students will be able to obtain certifications from the American Welding Society (AWS). Every AWS certification that a welder earns increases the number of skills needed to perform a wide range of welding jobs. Students must bring their own welding helmet, gloves, clear safety glasses and long sleeves to class. In addition, we offer basic welding classes to teach you foundational welding skills to make minor repairs.

Welding II
Welding I is not required before taking Welding II.
Jan. 25 - May 6 | Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., plus 4 hours of online assignments | Forte Building, rm. 312, Hamlet Campus |Tuition is $180; fees are $100.
Topics
- Safety Training
- Fabrication
- GMAW (MIG) FCAW/Plate
- GTAW (TIG) Plate
Welding - Stick Plate
Class Dates & Cost: TBA
This course introduces students to the shielded metal arc (stick) welding process. Emphasis is placed on padding, fillet, and groove welds in various positions with SMAW electrodes. Upon completion, students should be able to perform SMAW fillet and groove welds on carbon plate with prescribed electrodes. This is a necessary class before taking the Stick Pipe class.
Welding - Stick Pipe
Class Dates & Cost: TBA
This course covers the knowledge and skills that apply to stick welding pipe. Topics include pipe positions, joint geometry, and preparation with emphasis placed on bead application, profile, and discontinuities. Upon completion, students should be able to perform Stick Welding (SMAW) welds to applicable codes on carbon steel pipe with prescribed electrodes in various positions. The prerequisite to this class is that students must possess the skills to stick weld Open Root Welding (no backing plate) on plate material in all positions before registering for this Stick Pipe class.
Welding - Tig Pipe
Class Dates & Cost: TBA
This course covers the knowledge and skills that apply to Tig welding pipe. Topics include pipe positions, joint geometry, and preparation with emphasis placed on bead application, profile, and discontinuities. Upon completion, students should be able to perform Tig Welding (GTAW) welds to applicable codes on carbon steel pipe with prescribed electrodes in various positions. The prerequisite to this class is that students must possess the skills to Tig weld Open Root Welding (no backing plate) on plate material in all positions before registering for this Tig Pipe class.
Welding - Basic
Class Dates & Cost: TBA
Gain skills to perform simple stick and MIG bead welds to fillet welds in all positions. Learn how to make minor repairs on plate material. Students must bring their own welding helmet, clear safety glasses, welding gloves and long sleeves to class. It is recommended students wear leather boots.
