Medical Assisting (MED-3300)
Overview
A medical assistant is a healthcare professional who provides administrative and clinical support to physicians and other healthcare staff in various healthcare settings, including clinics, hospitals and doctor's offices. Richmond Community College offers a Medical Assisting program comprised of two phases that are completed over the course of two semesters. During the second phase, students receive five weeks of work experience in clinical settings. In order to start phase two, students must successfully complete required courses.

Earn Your Certifications
Students who successfully complete Phase 1 can get certified through the National Healthcareer Association to become a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA).
Students who successfully complete Phase 2 can get certified two ways:
- Through the National Healthcareer Association to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).
- Through the American Medical Technologists to become a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Oct. 19 - May 12, 2027 | Monday and Tuesday from 8:25 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:25 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. PLUS online assignments | Grimsley Building, rm. 236, Hamlet Campus | Tuition for this class is $180; fees are $173.
*If you did not take Phase I at RichmondCC, you will be responsible for purchase of e-book/CONNECT access for course work. Additional costs include health physical, any required immunizations, TB skin test, uniform and certification exam.

Prerequisites for Enrollment
- Completed registration form
- High school diploma or equivalent transcript (with expected graduation date or completion date)
- Accuplacer Next Generation Reading and Math test of 250 or higher OR transcript showing successful completion of college level English and Math class
- All official transcripts, if applicable
