Course Descriptions
Electric Utility Troubleshooting (EUS-255)
This course introduces a wide variety of techniques to troubleshoot electric utility substation and generating plant power system equipment. Topics include testing and troubleshooting high and medium voltage power circuit breakers, three phase high voltage power transformers, voltage regulators and circuit switchers. Upon completion, students should be able to use specialized test equipment used by utility substation and generating plants.
Capstone and Case Studies in EUSRT (EUS-260)
This course provides an opportunity for students to utilize all facets of their educational experience to solve problems common to the electric utility industry. Topics include electric utility and industry case studies, project safety, planning and organization, communication, and project documentation. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the ability to complete a capstone project, concluding with a formal report.
Geology (GEL-111)
This course introduces basic landforms and geological processes. Topics include rocks, minerals, volcanoes, fluvial processes, geological history, plate tectonics, glaciers, and coastal dynamics. Upon completion, students should be able to describe basic geological processes that shape the earth.
Survey of GIS-GPS (GIS-110)
This course introduces the methods and techniques used in the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) profession. Emphasis is placed on problem solution sequences and advisement, counseling, and technical methodology, including technical computer usage and technical graphics. Upon completion, students should be able to identify major fields using GIS/GPS technologies and apply their methodologies toward problem resolution.
Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS-111)
This course introduces the hardware and software components of a Geographic Information System and reviews GIS applications. Topics include data structures and basic functions, methods of data capture and sources of data, and the nature and characteristics of spatial data and objects. Upon completion, students should be able to identify GIS hardware components, typical operations, products/applications, and differences between database models and between raster and vector systems.
Introduction to Gerontology (GRO-120)
This course introduces the psychological, social, and biological aspects of aging. Emphasis is placed common mental, social, and physical changes that occur during the aging process. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize the aging process and its psychological, social, and biological aspects.
Community Health (HEA-120)
This course provides information about contemporary community health and school hygiene issues. Topics include health education and current information about health trends. Upon completion students should be able to recognize and devise strategies to prevent today's community health problems.
World Civilizations I (HIS-111)
This course introduces world history from the dawn of civilization to the early modern era. Topics include Eurasian, African, American, and Greco-Roman civilizations and Christian, Islamic and Byzantine cultures. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in pre-modern world civilizations.
World Civilizations II (HIS-112)
This course introduces world history from the early modern era to the present. Topics include the cultures of Africa, Europe, India, China, Japan, and the Americas. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in modern world civilizations.
Western Civilization I (HIS-121)
This course introduces western civilization from pre-history to the early modern era. Topics include ancient Greece, Rome, and Christian institutions of the Middle Ages and emergence of national monarchies in western Europe. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in early western civilization.
