Associate Degree Nursing Paramedic to ADN Transition Pathway
The Paramedic-to-RN pathway at Richmond Community College is an accelerated, 3-semester program for credentialed paramedics. It bypasses foundational classes, allowing students to quickly earn an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and qualify for the NCLEX-RN exam.
The Associate Degree Nursing program aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary for safe, quality, and individualized nursing care in a dynamic healthcare environment. It emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based practice, and holistic patient care. Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and pursue diverse employment opportunities in various healthcare settings. The Paramedic to ADN track offers paramedic professionals a pathway to advance their education and join the traditional associate degree program after completing the initial transition course.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
• The following elective courses must be completed prior to acceptance into Paramedic to ADN transition pathway. These include BIO 165 and BIO 166, ENG 111, and PSY 150. BIO 165 and BIO 166 must have a grade of “B” or higher and were completed in the last 5 years.
• Must have completed at least high school diploma or GED.
• Current BLS CPR card.
• Current Unrestricted North Carolina Paramedic Certification or National Registry Paramedic Certification (must be maintained throughout the program) and obtained within the last 5 years.
• Paramedic verification attestation form. Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Paramedic.
• Completed health form and current required immunizations.
• Score of 250 on the Math and Reading Accuplacer Exam, two attempts only within a year.
• Please note that BIO 275, ENG 112, HUM 115, MAT 143, PSY 241, and SOC 210 must be successfully completed to enter NUR 113 in the Summer Semester.
These credentials/certifications provide 18 credit hours of advanced placement for students who are accepted into the program. Students will receive articulated credit for NUR 111, NUR 112, and NUR 114. To receive this articulation credit, the student must receive the recommendation of the Program Coordinator.
