May 9

May 9, 2024 - Richmond Community College and Brunswick Community College (BCC) signed an agreement Wednesday that will extend RichmondCC's 911 Communications and Operations associate degree program to North Carolina's coastal region.Presidents shake hands

Starting this fall semester, BCC students can enroll in the 911 telecommunications program offered at RichmondCC. To earn the associate degree, BCC students must complete a minimum of 25 percent of coursework, or 21 credit hours, at RichmondCC. The remaining 44 credit hours can be completed at BCC. This structured approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

This collaborative agreement marks a significant step in providing enhanced educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in emergency communications.

"We are excited to partner with Richmond Community College to offer students a comprehensive and industry-relevant education in 911 Communications and Operations," said Dr. Gene Smith, BCC president. "Collaborating with other colleges allows us to leverage resources and offer a wider array of programs to our students."

Under the terms of the agreement, Brunswick Community College will assume responsibility for academic advising of students enrolled in the 911 Communications and Operations Program. This ensures that students are taking the appropriate courses to meet program requirements and achieve their academic goals.

"We are committed to upholding the highest standards of education and training in the field of emergency communications," said Dr. Dale McInnis, president of RichmondCC. "By partnering with Brunswick Community College, we can provide students with a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with industry standards and prepares them for success."
