Submission Guidelines

General

Submissions are accepted July 1st through February 1st annually. All submissions should include first and last name, title(s) of work(s) submitted, the submission itself, and an acknowledgment that, “I have read the submission guidelines and accept the terms outlined within.” Additionally, all submissions should be accompanied by a short biography from the contributor. Please read the Editorial Policy and the Submission Guidelines before submitting. Email all submissions to torchmagazine@richmondcc.edu.

Editorial Policy

All submission should be original. Submissions signed “Anonymous” will not be considered for publication. Contributors should only send reproductions of work as Torch staff is not responsible for lost or misplaced submissions. Untitled submissions that are selected for publication will be given a title. Editors reserve the right to edit all writing submissions.

Torch acquires first serial rights. By submitting for publication, contributors agree that Torch reserves the right to use the published submission on a one-time basis for the magazine’s promotions. All other rights revert to the contributor upon publication.

Submissions that do not adhere to all of the submission guidelines will not be considered for publication.

Guidelines

Writing Submission Requirements

Poetry, Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Interviews

  1. Short fiction, creative nonfiction, and interview submissions should not exceed 2,000 words. Poetry submissions should be no longer than 50 lines in length.
  2. Writing submissions must be electronically submitted as .doc, .docx, or .rtf files.
  3. Writing submissions must be formatted using 12 pt. Times New Roman.
  4. Single-space all writing submissions.
  5. A cover letter with the submission must include the title of each writing submission and contributor’s name, address, telephone number, email address, and a brief bio that includes (if applicable) the contributor's degree/diploma program at RichmondCC as well as future academic/professional plans. The cover letter should also include a contributor acknowledgment that, “I have read the submission guidelines and accept the terms outlined within.”
  6. The contributor’s name must not appear anywhere on the submission itself.
  7. The title of each work should appear on the submission itself.
  8. Writing submissions should be labeled as fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or interview.
  9. Up to three works can be submitted per submission period. Previously unpublished submissions only.

Art Submission Requirements

Photographs, Digital Art, Drawings, Paintings, Three-Dimensional Art

  1. All art submissions must be submitted electronically as .jpg, .jpeg, or .png files with a minimum dpi of 300 and a minimum image width of four inches.
  2. A cover letter with the submission must include the title of each art submission and contributor’s name, address, telephone number, email address, and a brief bio that includes (if applicable) the contributor's degree/diploma program at RichmondCC as well as future academic/professional plans. The cover letter should also include a contributor acknowledgment that, “I have read the submission guidelines and accept the terms outlined within.”
  3. The contributor’s name must not appear anywhere on the submission itself.
  4. Entries should be labeled as photographs, digital art, drawings, paintings, or three-dimensional art. Three-dimensional art includes, but is not limited to, sculpture, pottery, fabric arts, woodwork, and metalwork. Drawings include, but are not limited to, pencil, crayon, chalk, marker, and pen.
  5. Up to three works can be submitted per submission period. Previously unpublished submissions only.
