Sewing Basics

Start sewing the right way with instructor Terrie Strohecker as she guides you through beginner sewing machine techniques. Whether you are new to sewing or want to freshen up your skills, Terrie will teach you many tips and techniques that will build your confidence with a sewing machine. Students must provide their own sewing machines.

  • Learn basic sewing terminology
  • Threading a machine
  • How to easily change seam allowances
  • Learn what different presser feet are used for
  • Different fabric types
  • Cutting techniques
  • Learn basic cleaning and maintenance of a sewing machine

Examples of What You Might Make in Class

  • Pillowcases with accents
  • Drawstrings bags and drawstring backpacks
  • Placement mats and napkins
  • How to install zippers
