The Performance Measures for Student Success Report is the N.C. Community College System’s major accountability document. The annual performance report is based on data compiled during the previous year and serves to inform colleges and the public on the performance of the 58 community colleges.

Dr. Dale McInnis, College president, presented the report to the trustees and said RichmondCC was fifth out of the 58 community colleges for overall ranking.

“I give all the credit to the students. This is a product of their efforts, as well as the faculty and staff who support them,” he said. “Besides being a major tool to evaluate the College’s performance, there is also additional funding provided based on the results.”

The report includes seven performance measures that are ranked “Met or Exceeded Excellence Level,” “Below Excellence Level, Above College Average,” “Below College Average, Above Baseline Level” and “Below Baseline Level.”

RichmondCC received four “Met or Exceeded Excellence Level,” one “Below Excellence Level, Above College Average,” and two “Below College Average, Above Baseline Level.”

McInnis said he was especially proud of the improvement in “Curriculum Completion Rate,” in which RichmondCC received the top ranking for this performance measure.

“That is the number one goal. We want students to graduate and move successfully into the next step of their life,” he said.

RichmondCC also received top marks for students’ success in English and math, as well as for successfully completing their first year of college.

The College also performed above average on the “Licensure Pass Rate” measure. McInnis noted that of the 41 graduates of the Associate Degree Nursing Class of 2020, 40 had already taken the NCLEX test and successfully passed.

Areas for improvement as indicated by the report included student performance in basic skills classes and the performance of students who transfer after leaving RichmondCC.

McInnis said the College includes this report in the Board Planning Session every spring and will identify new strategies for future improvement.

New Trustees Join the Board

The Board of Trustees had two new faces joining the meeting on Tuesday. Whit Gibson was appointed to the board by the Scotland County Board of County Commissioners, and Lee Wallace was appointed to the board by the governor.

Leaving the board were Bob Davis and Jennifer Greene. Jerry Austin was reappointed to serve another four-year term by the Richmond County Board of County Commissioners.
