Topics include plant identification, fertilizer and chemical care, as well as watering, herbicides and proper pruning and use of insecticides.

The first course, running from June 16 through July 9, will focus on landscaping with native plants, covering 10 plants common to the Sandhills area and discussing when they should be planted, when they bloom and instructions on pruning, fertilizing and using pest control. The class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The second course of the series will be held July 21 through Aug. 13 and cover landscaping construction, including permeable and impermeable pavers, as well as segmental retaining walls. It will also meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The final course of the series, running Sept. 14 through Oct. 7, is turf management and grass identification. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

All classes will meet in Room 319 of the Forte Building on RCC’s main campus in Hamlet. Cost for each individual course is $70.
