Online College Opens More Pathways for RichmondCC Grads to Advanced Degrees in Engineering

Nov 15

Nov. 15, 2018 – Richmond Community College has partnered once again with Excelsior College to map out transfer pathways to advanced degrees.Excelsior College logo RichmondCC graduates of the Associate in Engineering program can now transfer up to 90 credits to Excelsior College to earn a bachelor’s degree in one of two fields, Nuclear Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering Technology.

Because of these transfer pathways with Excelsior, RichmondCC graduates will have a jumpstart on advanced degrees in engineering technology. Credits transferring in from the Associate in Engineering program will give RichmondCC graduates nearly half the credits they will need to complete either a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technology or a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology. Both of these bachelor degree programs are offered online and have specialized accreditation by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

“ABET provides the highest-level accreditation for applied science, computing, engineering, and technology programs. Only 609 colleges in the USA are ABET accredited,” Lisa LaVigna, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships at Excelsior, said. “Excelsior College is one of only two online schools with ABET accreditation for Nuclear Engineering Technology. It is also one of four online institutions with ABET accreditation for IT programs. Employers look for graduates of ABET accredited programs.”

Through this partnership, Excelsior College is also offering RichmondCC students about a 20 percent ($100 per credit hour) discount on tuition. Excelsior will also waive the $50 application fee for RichmondCC graduates.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to earn advanced degrees in engineering online and at an affordable price,” Director of Career and Transfer Services Patsy Stanley said. “Having a bachelor’s degree makes you eligible for 13 times as many jobs as an individual with no degree.”

Excelsior College is a not-for-profit, regionally accredited online institution. Excelsior has partnered with RichmondCC on transfer pathways into advanced degrees in Technology Management/Electrical Technology, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering Technology and Nuclear Engineering Technology.
