Medical Assisting Students Gain Hands-on Training with Therafirm Health Fair

Richmond Community College’s Medical Assisting students conducted a heaRichmond Community College Medical Assisting students visited Therafirm on Nov. 19 to educate employees on important health issues and perform blood pressure checks.lth fair on Nov. 19 at Therafirm in Hamlet, providing a service to the company’s employees while also getting hands-on clinical experience.

Students checked employees’ blood pressure and other vitals and provided patient education on important health issues. This is an annual lunch and learn program that the College provides through its Medical Assisting program.

The Medical Assisting program prepares multi-skilled health care professionals who can perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures in a variety of health care settings. Students learn about scheduling appointments, coding and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, medical transcription, computer operations, assisting with examinations and treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration and the ethical and legal issues associated with patient care.

Graduates of the program can take the American Association of Medical Assistants’ Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. The Medical Assisting program is accepting new students for spring semester. New students can come to RichmondCC’s main campus in Hamlet and register for classes. Final registration is Jan. 5 -7 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. For more information, visit  www.richmondcc.edu/admissions.
