Aiming to Raise Scholarship Funds at the RichmondCC Clay Shooting Classic

Sep 25

Sept. 25, 2018 – Richmond Community College’s Clay Shooting Classic is back to give sports men and women a chance to compete on one of the most exciting sporting clay courses you will find.A shooter stands at one of the clay shoot stations.

The Clay Shooting Classic will be held at DeWitt’s Outdoors Sports in Ellerbe on Tuesday, Oct. 9, starting with lunch and registration at noon. Shooting will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the mile-long sporting clay course with 14 stations. This year, a “flurry” will be added to the total group of stations.

Shooters are encouraged to come early before lunch for a “flurry” practice session.

“The staff at DeWitt’s Outdoor Sports does a super job of making this a great experience for all who participate, and we look forward to having another successful shoot, which serves as a fundraiser for student scholarships at Richmond Community College,” said Dr. Hal Shuler, Associate Vice President of Development.

Teams of four shooters will compete for first, second and third place trophies. There will also be prizes for individual winners.

Cost to sign up is $600 per team and $150 for an individual. The entry fee includes ammo, shotgun (if needed), lunch before and dinner after the competition, goody bag and T-shirt. There will also be a raffle for a variety of outdoor sports merchandise and a silent auction that will include a shotgun, hunting trip, hunting attire and the fishing trip of a lifetime at the King Fisher Society in Laurel Hill.

The clay shoot raises money for one of RichmondCC’s largest and fastest growing scholarships, the Working Scholarship program. The Working Scholarship helps offset the cost of tuition and books for working college students whose income makes them ineligible for federal and state financial aid.

“These fundraisers will put more money into the Working Scholarship program, which means we can help more students afford college and achieve their career goals,” Shuler said.
